Julia enjoyed being a wife, mother, and homemaker, but also did babysitting and sewing for her friends and family. She enjoyed taking care of her numerous house plants and spending a lot of time at the Senior Citizen’s Center and her exercise group.
Julia lived independently until she was 100 before moving in with her daughter Jean.
The nurses and other patients became good friends with La Verne, as most people did.
Problems with chemo left him with a decision; keep trying chemo or just go without it. Doctors expected him to live 2-3 years, but determination and stubbornness gave La Verne 5 years longer than the doctors predicted.
Funeral services will be am on Wednesday, December 20th at the United Methodist Church in Kennebec, SD with Rev. On December 10, 1934, she married Alex Mathison in Reliance, SD and they eventually settled on a farm north of Kennebec.
